Fire ants: I’m an Iowan living in Toronto. I had never encountered fire ants until last year when I was working with Toronto Nature Stewards eradicating invasive species in our ravines in the city. I kneeled on their home — not an obvious mound — by mistake. Even though I was wearing long sleeves, pants, and gloves, they somehow got through and bit me. The pain, swelling and itching lasted almost 2 weeks. Be very glad they are not in Iowa!
I really appreciate your posts, Al. They keep me sane in this crazy world.
Yes it takes some attention to nature to get the unnatural out of our heads for a minute.
The news today is also "best heard at a distance."
And thanks for remaking Poe for me, "Quoth the Chickadee, Chickadee-dee." That has entered my personal canon.
Thank you Jo and Diane. You both rock!
Thank you, Jo, for making my days.
